
This online event hosted by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) as part of the Seventieth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) will explore how grassroots, gender-responsive data from informal settlements is shaping more inclusive climate action. The session will highlight community-led research in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, where women are collecting and analysing heat and lived-experience data to better understand urban climate risks. Speakers from SDI Kenya, Muungano wa Wanavijiji, and partner organizations will share insights on how community-generated evidence can influence climate governance and resilience strategies.

Developed through a dynamic collaboration between SDI Kenya, the Kisumu County Government, Maseno University, Muungano wa Wanavijiji, and communities from seven wards the report brings lived realities to the heart of urban climate planning.

The CBA conference series aims to bring together a community of practitioners that are collectively seeking to enable community-driven climate action.

SDI Kenya is excited to announce our participation in the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), a premier global conference established by the United Nations in 2001. The WUF is dedicated to addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by rapid urbanization, focusing on its impacts on communities, cities, economies, climate change, and policy development.
The inaugural WUF was held in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2002, and since then, it has become a vital platform for inclusive dialogue on urbanization issues, hosted in various cities worldwide. This year, WUF12 will be convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt in the city of Cairo, taking place from 4 – 8 November 2024. The forum will explore solutions and innovations to transform our cities and communities for a sustainable urban future under the theme "It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities.
SDI Kenya is proud to announce our participation in the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP29. This conference, established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is a key event for global discussions and negotiations on climate change.
COP29 will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from Monday, 11 November 2024, to Friday, 22 November 2024, and will be presided over by Mukhtar Babayev. The conference will bring together world leaders, policymakers, scientists, business representatives, and civil society to discuss and negotiate climate actions and policies aimed at mitigating climate change and adapting to its impacts.
